The New York Wine & Food Classic in Watkins Glen is considered the ‘Oscars’ of state wine competitions and the votes from this years’ are in. Taking the ‘Governor’s Cup’, the most coveted award of the Classic, is a 2011 Lemberger red wine from Ventosa Vineyards, but the Governor’s cup isn’t exactly the award we at Skolnik have our eyes on.
We’re more interested in the Best UnOaked Chardonnay a category where stainless steel shines. Unoaked Chardonnays are just that, Chardonnays that contain no hints of oak. Unoaked wines, Chardonnays in particular, have increased in popularity in the last few years. Fermenting and aging wine in stainless steel brings out (and maintains) the purity of the grapes’ flavor.
The award for this year’s unoaked chardonnay goes to Glenora Wine Cellars for their 2014 Chardonnay. At Skolnik we want to raise a glass to the Glenora team for believing in and perfecting the art of the unoaked white wine.
